The East Asian-Australasian Shorebird Reserve Network

Migratory Shorebirds make seasonal international trips between Southern and Northern Hemisphere.

Yatsu Higata is Located at a point along the routes between Siberia and Australia,Which distance extends 12,000 km. Staging area for the birds is very important.

The East Asian-Australian Shorebird Reserve Network was adopted at the 6th Ramsar Convention in Brisbane, Australia in March 1996.

The Convention seeks for preservation of waterfowls by promoting conservation of wetlands along those flyways with international cooperation.

The 31sites in 10countries participated in the Network including Japan. (DEC.2002)

In Japan, The Yatsu Higata Tidal Flat, The Yoshinogawa River Estuary Area, Manko, Tokyo Port Bird 0ark, Kashima Shingomori have participated.
